meet the designers: cristina eck.

WHY DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN FASHION DESIGN?
From Raleigh, I became interested in fashion design around the time of high school and have been involved in it ever since. I love it!

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?
I love to travel and see the traditional dress of other countries and if possible, incorporate them into my designs. I also enjoy reading and thinking about all of the amazing things I would love to do in my future.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGNER?
The designer I respect most is Christian Dior. His designs are always so beautiful and well crafted. They are incredible and make the women that wear them look incredible as well. Feminine and chic. Sleek and sexy. He creates works of art out of everything I love abut fashion.

WHAT DOES HOPE MEAN TO YOU?
Hope, to me, means the future. If you have hope, then you want to keep on going, you want to work hard and keep on fighting whatever battles you must until the very end.

we're glad you're here!

We are just 24 days from the 1st Annual White Out Lung Cancer Fashion Show.

My name is Jordan Jaked, and I am the chair for this exciting event!

That's me there on the left! :)
I developed a true appreciation for fashion in my teens when I first saw a Badgley Mischka gown; it was breathtaking, and I knew that I wanted to create. I began college as a fashion design major but ended up discovering that my passion was in costume design. Needless to say, I still have a healthy obsession with fashion.

In February 2011, I lost my mom to lung cancer. I was a senior in college preparing to graduate, and she had only been diagnosed five months before she passed. Lung cancer steals more lives each year than breast, ovarian, and uterine cancers combined. It is an 'invisible' killer, often sneaking up on patients and only being discovered once it has progressed too far for treatment.

I began to volunteer with the North Carolina Lung Cancer Partnership in the fall of 2011, as I was applying to graduate schools and discovering was post-graduate life could be like! I enjoyed the events that the partnership was holding, but I wanted to start something new that would honor my mom and raise awareness amongst a new demographic.

The idea to produce the White Out Lung Cancer Fashion Show sprouted in my mom's memory and grew as I talked about it with fellow designers and lung cancer warriors. I hope that this will be an event that inspires hope and brings awareness this year and for many years to follow. I have a wonderful team of designers, artists, and local women (and my dad!) with help from many great local sponsors! We have spent the last few months creating the fashion show, which will be held on June 15th at Burning Coal Theatre featuring local wine, treats, silent auction items, boutiques, and local designers, and we hope to see you'll join us as we WHITE OUT LUNG CANCER.
