Looking forward to another great year

It's hard to believe that our 2nd annual White Out Lung Cancer the fashion show is just 2 1/2 weeks away!! We are so excited to be back doing this event another year, and look forward to bringing you a fabulous night of fun, food and fabulous fashion.
This year we are proud to have Genentech BioOncology as our presenting sponsor along with the NC Lung Cancer Partnership. All proceeds from the event benefit the amazing work the NCLCP is doing in the fight against this terrible disease. In addition to these amazing sponsors we are also excited to have our Boutique Sponsors: Clotheshound, Maggi Bridal and Cousin Couture. These boutiques generously supported us last year at our inagural event, and have come back for another year!
We are also fortunate to have support from many additional sponsors and donors including: Zoe's Kitchen at North Hills, Moes Southwest Grill catering with Becca Thomas, GameDay creations, White Wing, Jessica Key Photography, and KFowler Design.

We look forward to adding to this list as additional donations for our silent auction come in and we can't wait to see YOU June 7th @ 6:30pm. Be there in White!

meet the designers: cori spade.

Hello All!

My name is Cori Spade and I am a rising senior at Meredith in the
fashion design department.

I became interested in fashion when I was in high school. I had always
loved fashion, but I did not know that I enjoyed sewing. I took a
sewing class in high school to fill one of my electives and I just
immediately fell in love with sewing and designing. Before I graduated
from high school, I had taken two more sewing classes and when
Christmas came around, I knew exactly what to ask Santa for.... a
sewing machine! I knew when I went to college that designing was
absolutely what I wanted to do. Since then, my love for fashion has
grown exponentially. What could be more awesome than to have a career
in fashion!?

It is extremely difficult to name one designer that I love, but my
idols are Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, the talented designers
behind Marchesa. They create the most stunning and beautiful pieces of
art that I have ever seen!

I wanted to get involved with WOLC, not only because I love designing,
but because lung cancer is a prevalent and constantly growing concern.
I wanted to become a part of an event that can inspire so many people
in North Carolina to raise awareness and take action against lung
cancer. This fashion show will catch the attention of a new
demographic, college students and young adults, and it can become the
change that needs to happen to find a cure. We hope for this show to
become an event that will continue to grow and inspire so many more to
take a stance against lung cancer.

Hope is a word that encompasses love and healing. It raises trust for
a positive future and inspires people to take action in what they
believe is right. Hope is never giving up on a dream.

meet the designers: katherine fisher.

Hi! My name is Katherine Fisher, and I am super excited to design for White Out Lung Cancer!

I am a recent addition to the Meredith College Alumnae, as I just graduated in May with my Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design and in Interior Design with a minor in Studio Art. I am from the beautiful mountains of Asheville, NC. I am currently an employee of the Marriott in downtown Raleigh. I plan on pursuing my Masters in Textile Design at NC State University.

My love for fashion started when I was a very little girl. I was obsessed with fashion and designers! I use to take my mom’s curtains and sheets and tried to make clothes out of them at a young age. I would always try not to get caught, because my mom would be upset that I attempted to hand sew two curtains together for what I thought was a very cute skirt. Little did she know that this would be my everlasting passion and I would want to pursue making clothes for the rest of my life. I grew up on Vogue and Harpers Bazaar. I could not wait to see what designers made next. I have always said that if you can make fashion art, than you are truly a fashion designer. My two favorite designers are Coco Chanel and Alexander Mcqueen. I mean I am in LOVE with their work and they are both two different designers. Chanel not only is an amazing role model, but a very talented, valued designer. She was one of the first female fashion designers of her time to put women into pants. She made statements with her clothes empowering women. Alexander Mcqueen was a true artist. You can just sit there and stare at one of his pieces and be completely captivated by his design and time consuming hand stitching. Both of these designers push and motivate me to become the best designer I can be.

The word “hope” means two p’s for me, prayer and positive attitude. I hope that we can raise a lot of money for the organization. I pray and that is my hope. White Out has inspired me to create garments that are angelic and whimsical. My inspirations are angels. With prayer, anything is possible.
